3-Tweet review: RSC Anderlecht vs RCS Verviers (CB - 28/10/09)

Premier played fourth division in this cup match, with little chance of an upset. Cheap tickets meant stadium was near full (good to see) and Verviers played very well, created better chances but couldn't convert. An unfortunate own-goal gave Anderlecht the lead and a Frutos goal 60secs after coming on as a sub killed the game. Verviers deserved better, very worthy opposition. (419)

3-Tweet review: Man United 2 Wolfsburg 1 (CL - 30/09/09)

Well that was closer than anticipated! United claim the win after late strike from Michael Carrick. Have to say United deserved the 3pts but Wolfsburg can take heart from their performance. It took goal from Dzeko to kick start United who equalised straight after from Gigg's fortunate FK. United perhaps underestimated the German champions but solid performance from the midfield was encouraging. Injury to Owen not so. (420)

3-Tweet review: Marseille 0 Bordeaux 0 (L1 - 30/08/09)

Crackingly competitive match, perhaps Bordeaux were fortunate to leave the Velodrome with a point. Marseille hit the post twice through Brandão and Cheyrou and created lots of chances. Carrasso did very well in goal for Bordeaux who should have stolen the win at the end, but goal disallowed for a push that didn't create scoring chance. Harsh but the Girondins didn't really do enough to win tonight. Good game though. (419)

3-Tweet review: Man United 2 Arsenal 1 (PL - 29/08/09)

Cracking game, great win, important 3 pts. United again very average in first half, Arsenal merited lead but what a goal from Arshavin. Brilliant. Fitting we won a penalty after incident midweek, but it WAS a penalty. Rooney scored and completely changed the game. United dominated hereafter, Foster made two world-class saves, Fletcher was immense & gift OG from Diaby cost Arsenal dear. 9 yellow cards, amazed no reds! (420)

3-Tweet review: Arsenal 3 Celtic 1 (CLQ - 26/08/09)

Right result but wrong circumstances. Eduardo, back from horrific broken leg, horrifically dived to win penalty that ruined the game. Hope he's punished for that, no contact at all. Feel sorry for Celtic, had mountain to climb already but lacked strike power. Arshavin still looks class and scored soon after coming on but best goal of the night by Donati was just consolation. Arsenal through to Champions League. (414)

3-Tweet review: Wigan 0 Man United 5 (PL - 22/08/09)

What a difference a half makes! United were very average first half, stunning the second. Rooney grabbed his 100th & 101st goals for the club and was wonderful to see Owen score his first and Berbatov get in on the act. Nani's great FK completed the rout. 5-0 flattered but was the right result. Could've been different had Rodallega, who looked good, managed to convert one of his many chances. Promising lad that one. 3-Tweet review: Burnley 1 Man United 0 (PL - 19/08/09)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Terrible performance from United tonight, fully deserved to lose. Full credit to newcomers Burnley, cracking goal by Blake and wonderful keeping from Jensen. If he didn't have such a brilliant day, and saved a penalty, United would have won, but that wouldn't have been fair at all. Lacked Ronaldo's inspiration tonight. Hope it serves as a much needed kick up the arse. (415)

3-Tweet review: Man United 1 Birmingham 0 (PL - 16/08/09)

Rooney's 99th goal was enough for United as they started their PL season with a win. Bit lucky with the goal as it hit the post into his path but won't complain too much! Good performance, not their best. Foster did well in goal and Owen really should have scored at the death - really hope he scores soon else critics will get on his back. Jerome looked good for Birmingham, he'll get goals this year for sure. (411)

Introducing the 3-Tweet Match Review

The new season is nigh and after getting into the Twitter phenomenon I thought of a cunning idea - write a match report of every match I watch - in Twitter style. Naturally 140 characters is rather short for a review so each review will be restricted to 3 tweets aka 420 characters. Short make for an interesting season! Should make for an interesting and challenging season! The number of characters is written in brackets, click here for archive of entries. (418)

Key for post headings:

PL = Premier League
CB = Confidis Cup (Belgian equiv. of FA Cup)

CH = Championship
CL = European Champions League
CLQ = Champions League Qualifying Match
FA = FA Cup
