Le carnaval de Bordeaux (4th March)

Sunday was the culmination of the annual carnival in Bordeaux, as thousands amassed on the streets to watch, or even take part in a parade.

The carnival runs over a weekend with numerous concerts and cultural exhibitions happening all across the city and each year a European city is chosen as a theme, and this year it was the turn of Barcelona in Spain. So as you would expect there was therefore a lot of references to Catalan art and colour scheme of red and yellow...

The weather also seemed to be playing its part as it was in the region of 22C, the sun high in the clear sky with a light breeze - a lovely change from the recent spells of rain that have been lingering over Bordeaux... It was a lovely day and I really enjoyed the carnival. It made a nice change from the numerous floats and collection tins, although we had to be on constant lookout for kids with silly-string cans ready to fire in our direction!

I've uploaded some photos of the parade which can be viewed by clicking this link: http://shef.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2078555&l=65385&id=61107707
